Dear Parents/Guardians of the Kappa Alpha Psi Book Award Recipients
The Silver Spring, Maryland Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Incorporated invites you, your son/daughter and family members to attend our annual Guide Right Program where we will recognize our Book Award recipients. Book awardees will be presented the $100.00 cash award that was included in the book award announcements transmitted to the schools in early March, 2010. But remember that announcement stated that the awardee had to attend this program to receive the cash award.
The program will be held at 3:00 P.M. June 13, 2010 at the Clinton AME Zion Church at 223 Elizabeth Ave, Rockville, MD 20850. The keynote speaker will be Mrs. Carlotta Walls LaNier, the author of the book selection, “A Mighty Long Way, My Journey to Justice at Little Rock Central High School.” Mrs. LaNier, a member of the Little Rock Nine, will share her story as the first African American female to graduate from Little Rock’s Central High School. She is the recipient of the Congressional Gold Medal and two honorary doctorate degrees.

Please come out and join us as Mrs. LaNier delivers a message of inspiration and encouragement that we hope will be a source of strength to sustain our youth through adversities and provide an incentive for them to maximize their talents and abilities as they pursue their educational objectives. After the program, Mrs. LaNier will sign the books presented to our book awardees at their school’s award’s night assembly, so please bring the book to the program.
If you have any questions, please RSVP by email to me to bworks03@verizon.net not later than June 7, 2010 and indicate your plans to attend the Guide Right Recognition Program and interest in participating in the Silver Spring Senior Scholars Program.
You can also support this program by purchasing this year’s book.
Respectfully,
Bobby Works
Book Award and Senior Scholars Program Coordinator
