Letter to Parents
Dear Parents/Guardians:
On behalf of the Silver Spring Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. and our Kappa Leadership Development Institute, I would like to share an opportunity that has a major impact on underrepresented minority young men in the 6th through 12th grade.
The Silver Spring Alumni Chapter’s Kappa Leadership Development Institute, commonly referred to as the Silver Spring “Kappa League“, is a program designed to aid young men of high school age grow and develop their leadership talents in every phase of human endeavor.
Since the fundamental purpose of Kappa Alpha Psi is ACHIEVEMENT, it is therefore the Fraternity’s primary purpose to help young men achieve worthy goals for themselves and make constructive contributions to their community by developing their leadership skills while monitoring, encouraging, enhancing, and rewarding their outstanding academic performance.
In embracing our Kappa League motto: “Developing Leadership…One Young Man At A Time“, Kappa Leaguers are not only eager to acquire roadmaps to higher achievement but also to the many opportunities to connect themselves with career resources, mentors, and a high-performing peer community.
As a Kappa Leaguer, each student must maintain a minimum GPA per academic period, participate in bi-monthly training workshops and meetings, complete community service work, and attend college tours and cultural events. Each student is required to chart his academic course of study, prepare a profile of his career, write an autobiography and organize his procedures for post-high school education. Each student is also required to be exemplary in each one of the “Kappa League Phases” which are:
Self Identity
Training
Competition
Social/Community Service
Health Education
Economic Empowerment & Education
College & Career
